The Pine Tree High School Interpretation, Speech & Debate team traveled to Chapel Hill Mt. Pleasant on Saturday, December 9, 2023 to compete in the Chapel Hill TFA Christmas Classic with 10 schools and 139 entries spread over 12 events. Traditional Interpretation, Speech & Debate powerhouses competed in the tournament including Lindale, Princeton, Tyler All Saints and Athens. As a result, Pine Tree captured the overall team sweepstakes. Pine Tree earned event champion in 7 of the 12 events. Additionally, Sophomore Parker Dalton joins fellow team member Junior Aiden McQueary in qualifying for the TFA State tournament. Up next: UIL State Congressional Debate Championship January 10-11, 2024 and Pine Tree Jar of Dirt Tournament January 12-13, 2024. Jose Aranda, a senior at Pine Tree High School, has been named a finalist in the QuestBridge Scholarship Program. Scholarship recipients are granted admission to one of QuestBridge’s college partners with a full four-year scholarship. QuestBridge’s college partners use a combination of their own funds as well as state and federal aid to fund the scholarship. The Match Scholarship is offered as part of a generous financial aid package provided by the QuestBridge college partners that covers the cost of attendance, including tuition and fees, housing and food, books, supplies, and travel expenses. Aranda has been matched with Notre Dame University! Congratulations, Jose!

The audio video department at Pine Tree High School has launched Pirate TV. The idea of Pirate TV emerged from the district’s commitment to provide a dynamic platform for student expression and engagement. Recognizing the diverse talents within the school community, Pirate TV was created where students could showcase their creativity, share information and connect with the broader Pine Tree High School audience. The channel serves a hub for various video projects, from informative segments to entertaining challenges, contributing to a vibrant and connected school culture. Student involvement is the heart of Pirate TV. The audio/video production class spearheads the creation of content, allowing students to develop their skills in scripting, filming, and editing. The program is diverse, ranging from live streams, special features and interviews, to entertaining challenges and music video remakes. The class encourages the PTHS student body to bring their ideas to the table, ensuring a variety of content that reflects the interests and talents of the PTHS diverse student body. Pine Tree ISD Wins 2023 TAEA District of Distinction Award Longview, TX – The Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) announced the 69 winners of the 2023 District of Distinction Award. Among the honorees is Pine Tree ISD. This is Pine Tree ISD’s second year to win this prestigious award. The districts received the honor for providing a well-rounded education that advocates and integrates visual arts curriculum to inspire creativity and build social emotional learning that connect learners to their community and beyond. TAEA is the leading advocate for the visual arts in the state. The organization has previously honored outstanding TAEA members for work in their classrooms and districts. This is the fourth year that TAEA is honoring districts that meet rigorous criteria as evidenced from data. For the 2022-2023 award, over 1,200 districts were eligible to apply. Each district submitted documentation they met from the 14-point rubric over the 2022-2023 school year. Only 69 districts met the high standard and will receive the outstanding honor indicating they are in the top 5% in art education in the state. “Pine Tree ISD has set a high standard for visual arts advocacy, integrated visual arts curriculum, encouraged creativity, community participation and student growth,” said Sandra Newton, Chair of the Administration and Supervision Division of TAEA. “It is a true testament to your visual art educators’ skill, dedication, and flexibility that the quality of their programs continued to provide strong and comprehensive visual art educational experiences to students.” About TAEA District of Distinction Award: District of Distinction has just completed its fourth year and is looking forward to increased participation going into the 2022-2023 school year. The Administration and Supervision division oversees the award program. The award honors school districts that are leading the way in the visual arts. The TAEA Administration and Supervision Division recognizes districts with outstanding leadership in promoting the arts in the district and community. TAEA wants to identify districts that are actively participating members in areas of VASE, Junior VASE, and TEAM as a few examples. The organization also looks at field experiences, community service, and community exhibitions to name a few as part of the rigorous rubric for the award.

Congratulations to Pine Tree HS Congressional debaters who captured three out of six places at regionals November 9th. Students competed in two three-hour rounds, receiving scores from five judges. When judges’ scores were added, the following Pirates medaled: Aiden McQueary — Region Champion Travis Johnson — 2nd place, Top Presiding Officer Ryan Alonso — 5th place The students represented Pine Tree well, making Pine Tree the only 5A school to place all three competitors. Their debate coach, Coach A, will take McQueary and Johnson to compete in the state contest in Austin in January where Alonso will be a state alternate.
