Congrats to the new Pulse percussion line! From Mr. Lloyd: Wow... What an awesome round of auditions. The hard work I have seen this semester leading up to these auditions has been very encouraging. I had some really neat surprises in the audition room and I am very excited for next season and the future of the percussion section. Thank you guys for all of your hard work. Parents, thank you for your support as well! Thank you to Mrs. Lloyd for this incredible graphic!

Pirate juniors Keith Fowler and Mitchell Eggerman advanced in the Texas Eastman Black History Essay and Oratorical Contest. The contest has two rounds. For round one, students submit research essays about an African American who has impacted a STEM field. If their essay is one of the five chosen to advance, they are invited to round two where they deliver a memorized speech related to their essay at the Texas Eastman campus. Essay and oratorical scores are combined for final rankings. The contest began for students in the East Texas area six years ago, and Pine Tree has placed winners every year, earning more than $13,000 in scholarships. This year, Mitchell wrote about Kara Branch, founder of Black Girls Do Engineer. Keith wrote about Dr. Gladys West, whose research led to the Global Positioning System (GPS). Mitchell and Keith will compete on February 18th for round two. Congratulations, Keith and Mitchell, and good luck next week!
