Longview, TX – Pine Tree High School is proud to announce that Angela Deel, a sophomore in the Engineering and Construction program, has been awarded The Gene Kranz Scholarship to attend Space Center University® this summer.

The Gene Kranz Scholarship Program, named after the legendary NASA Flight Director Gene Kranz, aims to provide deserving students aged 11-18 with scholarships to Space Center University®. This week-long, immersive engineering design program is designed to equip students with essential life skills and a passion for continuous ingenuity.

Angela Deel's dedication and commitment to her studies in engineering have not gone unnoticed. The scholarship recognizes her outstanding achievements and potential in the field. Space Center University® offers a unique opportunity for students like Angela to enhance their competence under pressure, develop innovative problem-solving skills, and foster excellent teamwork – qualities that Gene Kranz himself emphasized after the Apollo 1 tragedy.

Gene Kranz, addressing his mission control team, established the Kranz Dictum: "From this day forward, Flight Control will be known by two words: ‘Tough’ and ‘Competent.’" Angela, through her participation in Space Center University®, will embody these principles, ensuring accountability and continuous improvement in her pursuit of knowledge and skills.

Space Center Houston, through programs like Space Center University®, is dedicated to broadening opportunities for students to engage in immersive STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) learning experiences. Angela's participation reflects the school's commitment to nurturing the next generation of innovators and leaders in these fields.

Pine Tree High School congratulates Angela Deel on this well-deserved achievement and wishes her an enriching and inspiring experience at Space Center University®. We look forward to seeing her continued success in her engineering journey.
