ANNOUNCEMENT: NEW FINANCIAL AID GRADUATION REQUIREMENT

In accordance with Texas Education Code (TEC), §28.0256, beginning with students enrolled in 12th grade during the 2021-2022 school year, each student must do one of the following in order to graduate:  

1. Complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA);
2. Complete and submit a Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA); or
3. Submit a signed opt-out form.

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES BY THE MONTH

Look through each month's tabs below and explore the scholarships that are due during that month. Take note of their requirements and DUE DATES. Remember there is a difference between DUE and POSTMARKED. Scholarship applications will be linked to the online application's website or uploaded under the scholarship section below. Paper copies are also available in the counseling center. See Mrs. Hernandez if you have questions.

The Gates Millennium Scholarship                                                                                                                             Due 9/15/22


Amount: Scholars will receive funding for the full cost of attendance* that is not already covered by other financial aid and the expected family contribution, as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), or the methodology used by a Scholar’s college or university.

*Cost of attendance includes tuition, fees, room, board, books, and transportation, and may include other personal costs.


BASIC ELIGIBILITY

To apply, students must be:

  • A high school senior
  • From at least one of the following ethnicities: African-American, American Indian/Alaska Native*, Asian & Pacific Islander American, and/or Hispanic American
  • Pell-eligible
  • A US citizen, national, or permanent resident
  • In good academic standing with a minimum cumulative weighted GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) 

 Additionally, a student must plan to enroll full-time, in a four-year degree program, at a US accredited, not-for-profit, private or public college or university.

*For American Indian/Alaska Native, proof of tribal enrollment will be required. 

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE

An ideal candidate will have:

  • An outstanding academic record in high school (in the top 10% of his/her graduating class)
  • Demonstrated leadership ability (e.g., as shown through participation in community service, extracurricular, or other activities)
  • Exceptional personal success skills (e.g., emotional maturity, motivation, perseverance, etc.)

QuestBridge National College Match                                                                                             Due 9/22/2021

Amount: The Match Scholarship is offered as part of a generous financial aid package provided by the college that covers the cost of attendance, including: Tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, and travel expenses.


Match Scholarship Recipients are granted early admission to one of QuestBridge's college partners with a full four-year scholarship, worth over $200,000. Our college partners use a combination of their own funds as well as state and federal aid to fund the scholarship. 2022 Friends "Celebrating Texas Public Schools" Scholarship                                                                        Due 10/9/22

Amount: $2,500

1.    Prepare a video/multimedia presentation, 2 minutes or less, regarding how your public school education has impacted your life/career choice and prepared you to meet your future goals.     

2.    Request one letter from a teacher, guidance counselor, principal, vice-principal, or superintendent related to the student’s work in school (pdf preferred).

3.    Complete this application. Include how the scholarship will be used for the student's future/help achieve my goals, including approval to use video/presentation, the link for presentation, upload the recommendation letter, and submit.

The Coca-Cola Scholarship                                                                                                                                                              Due 10/31/22

Amount: $20,000

The Coca-Cola Scholars Program scholarship is an achievement-based scholarship awarded to graduating high school seniors. Students are recognized for their capacity to lead and serve, as well as their commitment to making a significant impact on their schools and communities. With the 34th class in 2022, the Foundation has provided over 6,450 Coca-Cola Scholars with more than $75 million in educational support. 150 Coca-Cola Scholars are selected each year to receive this $20,000 scholarship.

Elk National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarship                                                              Due 11/14/2022 at 11:59 PM

Amount: $1,000 - $12,500

Eligibility:

  • Current high school seniors, or the equivalent, who are citizens of the United States are eligible to apply.

 

  • Applicants do not need to be related to a member of the Elks.

 

  • High school graduates are not eligible to apply.

 

  • Applicants must be citizens of the United States on the date their applications are submitted; permanent legal resident status does not qualify.

Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarship Due 11/17/2022

Amount: Up to $55,000

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Senior standing – Plan to graduate from a U.S. high school in spring 2023.
  • Fall College Enrollment – Intend to enroll in an accredited four-year college beginning in fall 2023.
  • GPA – Earn a minimum, cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.5 or above.
  • Demonstrate Unmet Financial Need – We will consider applicants with family annual gross income up to $95,000. During the selection process, the Foundation will conduct a full financial review which will take into account all income and assets of the student and the student’s parents.

Dell Scholars Scholarship                               Due 12/1/2022

Amount: financial support of $20,000, a laptop, and textbook credits

  • Participate in a program-approved college readiness program in grades 11 and 12

  • Be on track to graduate from an accredited high school in the current academic year

  • Demonstrate a need for financial assistance

  • Be eligible to receive a federal Pell Grant in first year of college

  • Plan to enroll full time at an accredited higher education institution in the pursuit of a bachelor's degree in the fall directly following high school graduation

  • Earn a minimum of a 2.4 GPA

Forty Acres Scholarship                                                                                             Due 12/1/2022

Amount: Full Ride

 

    • High school seniors applying to UT Austin
    • In-state and out-of-state students 
    • Must be U.S. citizen or permanent U.S. resident at the time of application
    • Applicants applying to the McCombs School of Business should also apply to the Canfield Business Honors Program
    • Transfer and international students are not eligible to apply to the Forty Acres Scholars Program, but are eligible for other Texas Exes scholarships

-E-B Scholarship Program for Community Service Excellence                                       Due 2/3/2023

Amount: $2,000

H-E-B is a Corporate Sponsor of the UIL and has its annual H-E-B Scholarship Program for Community Service Excellence opportunity.   Nominees must have the following submitted to https://www.sportsinaction.com/scholarship/by no later than February 3, 2023:

 

  • Minimum 3.3 GPA
  • Number of Community Service Hours completed in the last 12 months
  • Community Service Verification Letters to document the number of hours submitted
  • A Letter of Recommendation
  • A Short Essay (500 words or less) on the topic: “What does Community mean to you?”

There will be 15 total winners – 5 each in music, academics and athletics – and each will be awarded $2,000 from H-E-B. An announcement of the winners will be at the UIL Basketball State Championships in March

Austin Bank Scholarship                                       Due 2/24/2023

Amount: Thirty-six scholarships will be awarded, with nine in the amount of $2,500 and 27 for $500.

 

Eligibility Criteria
1)  Students must be a graduating Senior of one of the high schools listed below to be eligible.

2)  Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4 point scale (or equivalent) to be eligible.

3)  Application form must be completed in it entirety and all supporting documents submitted to be eligible.

4)  All applications must be:
       •  submitted online by 11:59 p.m. on February 24, 2023;
       •  postmarked by Friday, February 24, 2023;    or
       •  delivered in person to the Whitehouse Austin Bank location by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 24, 2023.

No incomplete or late applications will be judged.

Big Things Come in Small Packages Scholarship                                                                                                                                          Due 5/28/24

Amount: $1,500

Applicants must:

Must be 14 years of age or older at time of application.| Must be a legal U.S. resident.| Must be a resident of one of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia.| This award is for U.S. students.

Submit an online written response to the question:

"Not every gift has to be expensive or extravagant. In fact, sometimes it's the sweet and simple things that make a real difference in our lives. Think back and tell us about something you received as a gift and why it meant so much to you." (250 words or less)

Students that qualify for the district's Free/Reduced Lunch Program may be eligible for fee waivers to take the SAT, ACT, and get other benefits to apply to college.

Students can request a fee waiver in the high school's Counseling Center.
