Why take AP?

Advanced Placement Program

The AP (Advanced Placement) curriculum, administered by the College Board, consists of standardized high school courses that are roughly equivalent to undergraduate college courses.  After completing an AP class, students take the AP exam in that subject, which can earn them credits and accelerated placement in college.

Beginning on Wednesday, March 25, you can attend free, live AP review courses, delivered by AP teachers from across the country. These courses:

  • Are optional, mobile-friendly, and can be used alongside any work your teacher may give you.
  • Will be available on-demand, so you can access them any time.
  • Will focus on reviewing the skills and concepts from the first 75% of the course. There will also be some supplementary lessons including topics from the final 25% of the course.

To access the live classes and recordings, visit the AP YouTube channel. We’ll be adding more courses soon.

AP Exam
For the 2019–20 exam administration only, students can take a 45-minute online free-response exam at home.Educator-led development committees are currently selecting the exam questions that will be administered.  To be fair to all students, some of whom have lost more instructional time than others, the exam will only include topics and skills most AP teachers and students have already covered in class by early March.
AP Capstone

Pine Tree ISD is excited to be selected to participate in the AP Capstone Program, which will be implemented in the 2017-18 school year.

AP Capstone is an advanced diploma program that debuted in 2014 with the first AP Capstone diplomas being awarded to 2015 graduates.  To earn the diploma, students must complete two required AP Classes - AP Seminar and AP Research - along with four more AP classes of their choosing.  Students must earn a 3 or higher on each exam to be awarded the diploma.
