       Course Syllabus

Course Objectives: Spanish II is a course that will re-introduce the language and enforce speaking strategies and confidence in Spanish. In this course, students will learn to develop their reading, writing, and speaking on an intermediate level in Spanish. In addition, they will learn to develop an appreciation for other cultures.

Recommended Materials:

  • Pencil AND Pen

  • 2 Subject Notebooks (one for each semester; it can be a 100-page COMPOSITION NOTEBOOK)

  • Loose Leaf Paper

    1 100-pack Index Cards

  • Be Respectful -- to the teacher and your classmates.

  • NO Cell Phones or any other type of personal technology. If it is heard/seen, it will be taken up. Failure to comply will result in a monetary fine and/or dismissal to the office. Parents and Administration will be notified.

  • Do not ask to go to another teacher’s classroom for ANY reason.

  • You are allowed 5 Restroom passes every nine weeks. (No Roll-overs.)

  • In order to use the restroom or leave the room for any reason, you must take the PASS and sign the sheet.

  • The consumption of food or drink is prohibited. **

  • Come prepared and ready to learn.  Participate daily and ask questions when you don’t understand.

  • Be POSITIVE -- to create an safe/inviting environment.

  • Respect yourself, your classmates, and your surroundings.

Participation:  Because of the nature of this class, your active participation in all activities is expected and required.  Each week in class you will earn participation grades. In order to receive the maximum grade, you must attend class, participate actively in class discussions and activities every day, and speak Spanish as much as possible.

Homework:  Homework will be assigned regularly and should be completed prior to class. Failure to complete the homework assignment will result in a zero. You may complete homework and turn it in the following day for a 70%.

In-class assignments: We work BELL TO BELL, so be ready to work and COMPLETE the work that is assigned IN CLASS. All in-class assignments are meant to be handed in before you leave class. Failure to do so will result in loss of points.

Notebook Grade:  You will be expected to take notes every day. Every nine-week period, you will present your notebook for a grade.

Quizzes:  You should expect 1-2 quizzes every week.

Tests:  Tests will usually be given every three weeks. If you are absent on the day of a test or a quiz, you need to come in as soon as possible to make it up.

Projects:  Projects should be examples of high quality student work.  I expect students to be creative and spend a significant amount of time working on these projects.  Class time will be allotted, however, students will need to spend some time working on these projects at home. All Projects are counted as TEST grades.

Oral Presentations and Dialogues:  Students will be expected to participate in both group and individual oral presentations and dialogues throughout the semester.

Cheating & Plagiarism: Students copying assignments or cheating on tests will not be given credit for their work. Parents and/or administration may be informed. Plagiarism (stealing the ideas or words of another and passing them off as one’s own) will not be tolerated and will result in a failing grade, also you will be sent to the principal for further discipline. In addition, the use of online translators is not acceptable and will result in a 0 for the assignment.

Online Integrity: Students will be using chrome books regularly in the classroom and have access some days to computers on project days. Although computer time is designed to be task-based, students are expected to stay away from using online translators, other student logins, or any type of Social Media outlets that could deter from class. Failure to do so will result in computer privileges being lost and office reprimands.

Tutorials: Students can ask for a tutorial session to be scheduled.
