Curriculum & Instruction

The PTISD Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment oversees the development and maintenance of a district curriculum that incorporates the standards set forth by the Texas Education Agency in the Texas Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) framework.

Support for foundation and enrichment courses is provided through curriculum documents, materials and resources, and training. Considerations to the diverse student population are embedded in the curricula to allow for differentiated instruction so that all students have the opportunity to learn and experience academic success.

Primary, Elementary, and Middle School Program (grades PK-6)
Language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, physical education, health, art, music, and computer literacy are the content offerings for grades pre-Kindergarten through sixth. Instructional technology is designed to prepare students for the challenges of a technological world. An integrated curriculum approach incorporates technology as a natural part of the educational process.

Junior High School Program (grades 7-8)
Seventh and eighth graders take required courses in language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Elective courses are offered in theatre, art, choir, speech, technology, business, physical education, and foreign languages. Students may earn high school credit in these grades.

High School Program (grades 9-12)
Course offerings at the high school level include a wide range of options in both the core content areas and the elective areas. An increased number of Advanced Placement and Dual Credit courses are offered in a variety of disciplines. Elective areas include, but are not limited to, fine arts (band, art, theater, dance), language arts (journalism, speech), foreign languages, (French, Spanish, German) mathematics (calculus, computer mathematics), and social studies (sociology, psychology).

Career and Technical Education
Courses are available to prepare high school students for employment. PTISD articulates with Kilgore College to provide additional opportunities for tech prep programs. Students may choose among trade and industrial education, office education, family and consumer science, and marketing education.

PTISD offers an abundance of opportunities for students in grades 7-12 to participate in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. Visit the Campus Web Pages for more information.
