Awards & District Recognition

Pine Tree ISD is:

Grateful for a dedicated and award winning staff who are committed to providing excellence for all students.

o    Pine Tree Junior High School Science teacher, Karen Darby, is the recipient of the 2008-09 Outstanding Teacher Award from the Texas Middle School Association.  Read more.

o    Principal Debbie Terry of Pine Tree Middle School was selected as the Region VII Assistant Principal of the Year, sponsored by the Texas Association of Secondary Schools.  Read more.

o    Teachers of the Year for the 08-09 school year were honored by the PTISD School Board as those who make a significant difference in the lives of their students through creative and effective classroom strategies.  Receiving honors were:  Robin Best, Karen McDade, Javier Sauceda, Amanda Grimes, Margaret Clark, Jim Manning, and Mary Graham.   Read more.

o    PT Education Foundation recognized teachers not only for excellence in the classroom, but for making a special difference in the life of a child.  Beacon Award winners  for 2008-2009 included:

§  Primary School: Tammy Friday, honored by student Taylon Mosley

§  Elementary School: Teresa Meadows, honored by student Kaelin Goodeman

§  Intermediate School: Mitzi Horton, honored by student Callie Ball

§  Middle School: Kim Ott, honored by student De'Qwuavin Henderson

§  Junior High School: Jim Manning, honored by student Israel Masceda

§  High School: Mary Graham, honored by student Lauren Dulweber

Proud of the hard work and dedication of the 2008-09 PTHS seniors who earned over 2 million dollars in offers of scholarships.

    • 211 out of 284 graduating seniors qualified as GLOBE/Texas Scholars which distinguished them as those who graduated under the Recommended Plan and Distinguished Achievement.
    • Pine Tree graduates will be represented in major colleges from the east coast to the west coast. Members of this class will serve their country in 4 different branches of the US military.
    • Several graduates have committed to studies abroad while many others will attend major universities across the great state of Texas.
    • Many of the members will continue their education here in the East Texas Region taking advantage of the many outstanding colleges in East Texas

Distinguished by all Pine Tree ISD campuses meeting Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) of the No Child Left Behind Act, according to ratings released annually in August. Measures for each campus in the state are posted on the Texas Education Agency Web site. Districts, campuses, and the state are required to meet AYP criteria on three measures: Reading/Language Arts, Mathematics, and either Graduation Rate (for high schools and districts) or Attendance Rate (for elementary and middle/junior high schools).

Ranked among the top in the state by the nonprofit National Center for Education Achievement  which rates Texas schools based on college and career readiness by measuring improvements in Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills scores.   NCEA's analysis included student test results from spring 2006, 2007, and 2008.
